Who We Are

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Camp was founded in 1963 by Swami Vishnudevananda. We are located in the idyllic setting of the Laurentian Mountains, only an hour’s drive from Montreal--- a sanctuary of peace and natural beauty. We welcome guests and students of all levels from the first-time beginner to the more advanced practitioner 365 days a year. Stay for a day, a weekend, a few days, a week or treat yourself to a more extended vacation. Participate in one of our courses or enrol in our world-acclaimed Teachers’ Training Course. What We Teach

We have a worldwide reputation for our high standard of teaching. Our organisation continues to uphold its ancient Indian roots and classical yoga teachings with our teaching based on the five points of yoga as taught by Swami Vishnudevananda.

Our Founders and Teachers

Swami Sivananda (1887 – 1963)

One of the great saints of modern times, Swami Sivananda is the inspiration behind the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre.

His teachings are a synthesis of all the formal doctrines of Yoga.
Author of over three hundred books, Swami Sivananda was a medical doctor before renouncing worldy life for the spiritual path.
His teachings continue to enrich the lives of millions around the world.

His main message was:Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realize. In 1957, he sent one of his foremost disciples, Swami Vishnudevananda to the west to spread the ideals of Yoga.

Swami Vishnudevananda (1927 – 1993)

Born in south India, Swami Vishnudevananda entered the Ashram of Swami Sivananda at the age of 18.

A world authority on hatha and raja yoga, he was sent to the West by his master Swami Sivananda and founded the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in 1957. He was a tireless campaigner for world peace, flying over war zones such as Israel and Palestine, Northern Ireland, the Berlin Wall during the 1960s and 1970s risking his life to disseminate the message of peace. He is author of the now classic Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga and Meditation and Mantras.

Swami Mahadevananda

Foremost disciple of Swami Vishnudevananda and one of the most senior teachers within the organisation, Swami Mahadevananda is Director of the Ashram and Yoga Acharya (spiritual teacher) for the organisation’s centres and ashrams in Canada and India. He is renowned for his profound knowledge, inspirational teaching and spiritual guidance.
